There must be many other websites dedicated to nothiong but healthy
meals. Setting one up here doesn't make sense. Alternatively, just
starting a new thread entitled Recipes will do what you want. Anytime
someone posts a new recipe to it, it will automatically get bumped to
the top so anyone can see the post without having to search through
past messages.
Different rides - don't forget that we already have more different
routes than just about anyone else I have ever seen and that after 10+
years, folks still miss turns on these routes. Additionally, based
upon where our participants live (and have to drive to ride starts),
starting points farther out than Walker Park or anything else south of
78 seems just too far to go and I don't want to do it until more
growth and development necessitate it. It is that time of year (May)
for the ride to Alcovy Trestle but the first and last 10 miles are
terrible (relative to what we normally do) so it is not often on our
schedule.
I would be interested in a few rides to try out where someone figures
out their 10 favorite roads that we ever ride on (e.g., Braswell
Church/Preston, Macedonia Church, Finley, etc.) and see if a low
traffic 60-80 miles route can incorporate those roads. We could
perhaps try a new one each month this summer and maybe pick a favorite
or two to do more regularly. In designing a route, when connecting
the favorite roads one should be careful to not require using busy
roads. It is more important to have an overall low traffic and quite
route than to get all of your favorite roads in.
Shorter TT - I am against it. I am certain that more than 50% of the
active riders in GTC have a racing background and not just 1 or 2
races but a year or more and a category upgrade. At this point, they
show up on our weekend rides to go for a nice, long ride. If they
were still highly invested in racing, they would (mostly) be doing
racing specific training. We only have 50-55 good days a year to have
nice group rides and 3 TTs a year seems more than enough. None of
ours are even 40 km long but the two are different (flat in GH and
hilly at Harbins) and that seems like more than enough of an option.
Dedicating more days is too much in my opinion. Don't forget that you
can do a TT anytime you want and post the results to the nice Google
documents file that Bob Kuhn set up.
One alternative that doesn't require a dedicated day(s) to a short TT
is the use of Pannel from its beginning to the Fairplay store during
any of our group rides that go that route. Once the group gets there,
any rider wanting to TT just does it. I bring this up becuase Bob
Kuhn used to use this exact section as a nice 18-20 minute test of his
threshold power.
