Sir, we the people of Darjeeling, from India and abroad, strongly condemn the statement made by Mr. Rajpal Yadav Add'l SHO, Sector 29, Gurgaon - "Girls from Darjeeling and Nepal have come here for business purposes. They go with men for money, but if the money isn't enough, it becomes rape" http://www.tehelka.com/story_main52.asp?filename=Ne140412Coverstory.asp. This is a derogatory statement against a community and to a place. A civilian, who has no knowledge of these things, making such a statement could be understood if not condoned. But, the same coming from a police officer, in uniform, to protect the same citizens, is utterly despicable, to say the least. His statement has deeply hurt the feelings of the residents of Darjeeling and our people living in various parts of India and abroad.
This kind of statement from a person in uniform also radiates the mentality and gives a bad name to the department. Hence, sir, we want Mr. Rajpal to take back his statement and make a public apology. We also request you to kindly inform him of the damage his thoughtless statement has already caused so that he refrains from such comments in future. We, the people of Darjeeling, are confident that you will hear our petition and take necessary actions.
