Subject: Gsutil configuration

I am curious if google storage can be installed without root on a CGI enabled server.  I can get root if required.  I have a server with excess capacity and am looking for a good ftp replacement.  I am probably off topic but I'd like a starting point if possible.  I know you can use gsutil with s3 but a generic server I am not sure about.  Kernel is 2.4 modified slackware.
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks,

Mark
