Growl has an about tab. the version of Growl that you are using is really old, it's 1.1.4. You can either grab the 2.0.1 version from the app store, or 1.2.2 from our website. We no longer support 1.2.2, but it's definitely newer than 1.1.4.

The preferences problem is due to this being a really old version of Growl. I have 2 children that are younger than this version. :)

Please remove this version with the uninstaller or the uninstallation instructions. Then install the updated version of your choice.

First of all, I don't have a clue which version of Growl I am running, since I don't see an "about" anywhere.

Secondly, I don't see any notifications anymore since upgrading to ML

Thirdly Growl keeps crashing. See attached log

Forthly setting the preferences starts the system preferences first, then immediately displays a message saying it must quit system preferences and reopen it to see the Growl preferences

All of this sounds to me like a very buggy app that has no been tested properly. Please fix these problems
