Subject: Install Growl on Lion OS without apps store
Hi there, we are intending to roll out few hundred growl into the mac
devices but it is not practical for each of my client to buy from
appstore. Is there a way we can do mass deployment without going
through the app store 1 by 1 for so many devices?

Thanks!

Probably not. i wish that the  mac app store would allow volume licenses for this purpose instead of having it log in to the same apple account that way you could give users with their own apple id let's say at work a code or something I am thinking poorly out loud. here.

but to answer your question I don't think there is.

Since this is the case I don't want this software.
I request a refund since it is not doing what was intended and was available in prior versions.

http://groups.google.com/group/growldiscuss/browse_thread/thread/be80...

i know chris was considering volume licensing, i don't know if there has been an official decision about it yet though.

Just build Growl yourself and deploy the way you want:

1) Open Keychain Access.app » application meny » Certificate Assistant »
Create a certificate
    * name: *3rd Party Mac Developer Application: The Growl Project, LLC*
    * type: *code signing*

2) Download and build:

   $ hg clone https://code.google.com/p/growl/
   $ cd growl
   $ xcodebuild -project Growl.xcodeproj -target Growl.app -configuration Release
   $ open build/Release

3) Copy Growl.app to /Applications or wherever you want.

VPP is only for iOS and not for the mac at the moment. Which is
unfortunate, since that'd make this whole thing much simpler.

We're currently looking into what it's going to take to get volume
licensing going for Growl.

Chris
