Growl doesn't work

I use Mac OS Lion 10.7.2, and Growl simply stopped working.

I was happy to pay the $1.99 for an upgrade that listed a history of
all of the events that occurred since I left my computer, and it did
work for a short period of time (maybe a day or two). Then it stopped
working altogether, and I have not been able to get it to work since.
There are no notifications whatsoever despite the fact that I have had
several events that should have triggered a notification. I have
uninstalled the application, and made sure that there are no legacy
versions mucking things up. What happened? What can I do to get
things going again?

I use Growl primarily to monitor a Dropbox account which has shared
folders. I want to know when another user adds or subtracts something
from these folders, and Growl did that for me for a little while.

Any help would be appreciated. Better yet, Growl developers, can you
fix this issue? A quick Google search shows this is a common
complaint. I paid for the use of this app, and you have not
delivered. Either make it work, or give me my money back!

Can you check to see if you chose to pause Growl?

No, it's not paused.  And all notifications are enabled in the Growl preferences panel.

Same here. I need to get Growl working with Skype on Lion but in Skype/Settings/Notifications/Notify with.../ the Growl notifications are grayed out.
