That is unfortunately a really old bug that the twitter people just have never fixed. I don't see them fixing it if they haven't fixed it in years, but who knows.

Growl only displays what it is told to display, so it's a twitter app problem. There are other twitter apps that support Growl though. :)

I get it also, I think it might be because they have not been marked as read on twitter app

I am not sure how it marks them as read
