Good afternoon,

A client of mine is running Growl version 2.0.8.1 on multiple XP pro
sp3 machines. Growl updates to version 2.0.9.1 fail. I initiate the
update, it states Download complete. "Starting installation..." then
the following error message appears:
"Growl - Fatal Exception
Growl encountered a fatal error and cannot continue. Please see the
Event Viewer for details"

I included the application error in event logs below:

Any help on this would be much appreciated!!

I reverted to 2.0.8.1 and tried the auto-upgrade and it completed without issues, but I was only able to try it on Windows 7 so far. I dont think I have an XP machine around anymore, but I can try to dig on up or figure out something, but it might take me a little time.

It sounds like maybe the .zip file that Growl downloads in the background (to perform the update) got corrupted. However, if it is happening on multiple machines, that seems unlikely.

If you just want to get updated, you can download the GrowlInstaller.exe from the main page of the website and run it and it will update the installation just like the auto-updater would have done.

Great idea! I'll proceed with your suggestion - no need to figure out why the update fails if that workaround does the trick.

I'll let you know when those updates are done,
