Hi Guys,

Pretty new to this as my next question will show. Is it possible to
achieve the following - I'm trying to download the dna sequence for
variations in mosquitos "Aedes aegypti" (or any variating species for
that matter) to my hard drive for analysis to try and identify the
variations between them for my final year project.

I have found ncbi and ebi download sites, but I'm not sure what to do
once I get there. The searches that are returned only contain
sequences of length a couple of lines long.

Or if you can suggest a better approach.

Thanks guys

Gavin

Th EBI and the NCBI web sites also have an FTP service from where you can download, for instance, all the sequences
for a given organism.

Hi,

This is absolutely true, you can download the FTP sites either from the NCBI or from the EBI ftp site. but you have to search for the relevant files at the FTP site. You can follow the following URLs for NCBI and EBI respectively http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Ftp/ http://www.ebi.ac.uk/FTP/
after downloading the files you can easily search for the species you are looking for. or even you can write a simple PERL program to fetch the data out of the downloaded files.

Kind regards,
