Hey All,

GUM is on tonight: 6pm @ Refactr

I'm going to be presenting on the work I did for http://whotweetin.com. For those that don't know, I got quite excited by a few of the talks at the Strangeloop conference this year and when I got back I decided to build on the work a few of us had done during a little hack session at the conference. I wanted to generalize a visualization we had done showing the linkages on Twitter between conference goers. In tweaking on that, I also decided to do the site in HTML5 with a bit of CSS3 + media queries for handling display on the iPhone. After that was all working, I decided to parallelize my Twitter search using GPars. All and all, it was a very fun project and I think it'll be informative to walk through it and discuss what I did and the problems I ran into.

Topics will include:
• Grails
• GPars
• HTML5
• jQuery
• Protovis
• Twitter API
• Data mining & machine learning (at a very, very basic level)

I hope you all can make it!

Jesse

Hi guys,

My name is Steve Grunlan, and I am a Recruiter with Harbinger Partners here in Plymouth.  I have a pretty specialty contract opportunity I wanted to run past the group, as the members here do a great job of staying up with the latest open source technologies and other Java related tools.  I have a consultant who is moving out of state, and I need to replace him at Wells Fargo downtown.  I am working with a Apps Manager who runs a small development team working on a variety of more cutting edge applications within the organization.  This is the early adopter group, if you will.  She needs a Java J2EE resource with Liferay experience.  Ths project is pretty indefinite, and will likely go thrugh 2011.  I can get a qualified eveloper an immediate interview for this one, as it is my own backfill.  Here is a profile of what this manager is looking for.  I would love to discuss this in more detail with anyone intersted.  Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I have a new long term Grails development contract opportunity with a company in St.Louis Park (394 and 100) called Carol Company.   The hiring manager is a manager of application development.  Eric came up through the ranks with UHG, starting as a programmer in C languages and then moved into more of a systems analyst role.   While at UHG he moved into a management role, made a couple moves, and apparently has been with  Carol Companies for the last couple of years.

The company does work in the medical space and they’re looking to build a team over the next year of Grail Developers.  They’re looking for a mid-sr level person to help out in an effort to build an application for their clients in the healthcare industry.    The first application they’re building is related to to healthcare and is a web appliciaiton with HTML and AJAX interface and in Grails on the backend.  This is an internet based application that would be used in hospitals.  The rest of the team is small.  Currently consists of the one developer and a QA person and they work closely with the solutions group that is designing the app which consists of a couple developers and UI people.

They have weekly requirement sessions to prioritize the initial part of building the tool and historically have releases every couple of months.   If anyone has interest has interest in this, I can be competetive with the rate, and would love to speak with you in more detail about it.  Feel free to call me any time.
