I just saw this groupon deal for a company in Boston that will turn your old T shirts into blankets!  I don't know how well this email will come through- the link to the 'deal' is http://www.groupon.com/deals/dc-bs2-project-repat?utm_medium=email&utm_source=channel_occasions_bts2-deals&sid=11227422&user=6d743c8fad38a278d0c0bfa95e3d50c663973480d01e76faa920d174c16d40aa&utm_campaign=11227422&s=body&d=dc-bs2-project-repat&p=19&c=deal_button&dl=d47388

The company link is http://www.projectrepat.org/  The website says that work with organizations in the US to make their products, including those employing people with disabilities,  and pay a living wage.

I wish i hadn't gotten rid of so many of my old T shirts last year! This looks like a fun use for them!

(BTW, if anyone is thinking of ordering a blanket, let me know. I can send you a different link that lets me get points for referring you!)

Project Repat – On Location

Blankets Made from Customer-Provided T-shirts from Project Repat (Up to $23 Off). Six Sizes Available.

The US Environmental Protection Agency reports that 13.1 million tons of textiles were generated in 2010, representing 5.3% of the total municipal solid waste generated. With this Grassroots campaign, you can help reduce waste by sending in old T-shirts to Project Repat, whose staffers will cut them into square-foot swathes, sew them together, and return them to you as an upcycled blanket. Choose from the following options:

  • $42 for a 3'x3' blanket using 9 T-shirts (a $55 value)
  • $45 for a 4'x3' blanket using 12 T-shirts (a $60 value)
  • $49 for a 4'x4' blanket using 16 T-shirts (a $65 value)
  • $53 for a 5'x4' blanket using 20 T-shirts (a $70 value)
  • $57 for a 5'x5' blanket using 25 T-shirts (an $80 value)
  • $61 for a 5'x6' blanket using 30 T-shirts (an $85 value)

Customers must pay to ship their T-shirts to Project Repat’s Boston location, but shipping of the final product is included. Shipping enough T-shirts for a 3'x3' blanket from California to Massachusetts typically costs around $12.

Project Repat repurposes excess clothing into functional accessories including blankets, scarves, ties, and bags. While reducing waste from textiles, the business also creates living-wage jobs for American workers,
