Hi:

My local Sierra Club chapter like many or most other Sierra Club chapters
are facing huge reductions in funding. So at least mine is researching
other ways of reaching members to raise funds. One consideration is
adding a fund raising envelop to our regular hardcopy newsletters. I've
chimed in that most of those envelops are discarded either to recycling,
or burned/landfilled and there has to be another way.

So my question to GRRN is considering non-profits that fund themselves
through member donations, what is the zero waste way to raise money?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Sincerely,

Ann Schneider

Hi Ann--

E-newsletter +/or Web link and PayPal credit card processing.

Has National loosened up the restrictions on Chapters for when they can do individual appeal fundraising? I remember that the Mackinac Chapter used to have a slight window in which to send out it's ANNUAL letter, because it couldn't overlap with National campaigns...which seem to be on-going year-round....

A lot of nonprofits are finding Social Media a very useful tool for outreach & fundraising.

There are various classes and interesting online discussions around, here are a couple:

Waste Management recycles enough paper every year to save 41 million trees. By not printing this email, you can help save even more.

Hi Pete:

Thanks and yes with budget restrictions we are moving from print
newsletters to Enews and then only 3 print newsletters and our annual
General Election Endorsement Issue. But in the past, I heard from some
of the big enviro's that their best source of non-membership renewal
money came from those envelops stuck in their newsletters. I don't know
if that has changed and especially changed given the current economy.

I like the paypal option, not sure if my chapter has tried that. I used
it back in my election reform days and it was a great tool for national
fundraising.

Ann
