Come out and meet your neighbors!
6pm @ Nate Smith House, 155 Lamartine St., Tues Dec 6th
Friends and neighbors,
We are living through a time of deepening challenges. Resilience is our
ability to adapt and help each other through the coming changes. Please
help spread the word: Tuesday December 6th at 6pm we will gather for our
second Fall potluck.
We will hear about the spiritual, artistic, food, equity, youth and
transporation dimensions of community resilience, from:
Andi Sutton a JP performance artist whose works explore the power of art as
a tool for community building and action on the artistic dimensions
* Jim Buckle, local farmer at Allandale Farm in Brookline/JP on the food
sustainability dimensions
Lilli Nye, minister at West Roxbury UU church on the spiritual dimensions
Juan Gonzalez, community organizer at JP NDC on the social justice and
equity dimensions
Youth Ambassadors from Bikes Not Bombs, to talk with us about their work
creating an after school bike shop at Boys and Girls Clubs - on the youth
and transportation dimensions.
After hearing these stories, we will have time to mix and mingle and join
or create break out teams working to create community reslience in JP.
Some ongoing teams are:
JP Resiliency Measures: community resilience is a tricky concept, Jenny and
some folks have been gathering over the past weeks to talk about how we can
begin to track our progress towards enhanced community resilience. Sarah
will share a resilience quiz that will help each of us answer, how
resilient are you?
Year-round Farmers Market: Kate and several neighbors in Egleston Square
are researching the potential demand and possible space for a farmer s
market that would stay open through the winter.
Complete Streets: Rhea just returned from a trip to Portland, OR and will
have stories to share about how folks are reclaiming their streets for
pedestrians, bikes, and community gathering spots. Perhaps some of these
ideas, or other ideas you bring, could work here in JP.
Policy Change: Joel and Terry and others are interested in identifying what
policy changes need to be made at the city and state level to support our
work to build a more resilient JP.
And bring your topic of interest! Spontaneous break-out groups and new
efforts welcome!
RSVP by Facebook
Or by email...
If you want to help make this a child friendly space, please get in touch.
Last time some of you brought your kids and asked that the potluck start on
the earlier side to facilitate the attendance of more parents so we are
starting at 6pm Dec 6th.
Spanish translation can be provided by bi-lingual participants, let us know
if you can help.
Looking forward to Tuesday!
Orion
PS Invite your friends interested in back-yard chickens, invite neighbors
from your block association, the more we weave the webs of community, the
more resilient we'll be.
