Dear Members,
For the year 2011, India will be the global host of the World Environment Day (WED), the principal vehicle through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness on the environment every year on June 5. The WED theme for 2011 is 'Forests: Nature at Your Service'.
Over 5 days, several inter-linked activities are proposed to be organized by the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), Government of India. All activities conceptualized will be aligned with the WED theme. Among these, MOEF is keen to organize a marketplace, where non-timber forest produce – both agro processed and crafts will be brought together at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, which is the proposed venue.
MoEF in partnership with Centre for Environment Education (CEE) will be facilitating the whole programme and setting up ‘Green Haat’ from 1-5 June, 2011 to showcase India’s forest heritage in the following categories:
a) Forest Handicraft
b) Herbal & Medicinal products
c) Forest based food recipes
There will be around 50 stalls put up in the above categories by various partner organizations of MoEF, State Forest Federations, GEF UNDP Small Grants Programme (SGP) partners and other NGOs. In case you are involved in the above areas, you are cordially invited to put up a stall of the range of your products in the Green Haat.
Travel by train (AC- II or III Tier), boarding and lodging will be provided by CEE for the entire duration to all the approved participants. You will then need to send your team of two persons by 31 May, 2011 as the stalls will be set up on that day. The money earned by selling of products will be retained by your organization.
I am sure you will be interested in this wonderful opportunity to showcase the products that you make with so much hard work, dedication and commitment. Please send your confirmations / clarifications to Chetali Kapoor (Chetali...@ceeindia.org) and Jai Kumar Gaurav (jai.g...@one.un.org) in the next 2 days.
Yours sincerely,
Ramesh Kumar Jalan, Ph.D.
