Translating complex website

Hi,
The company I work for uses some very complex in-house developed web based software (very cludgey, lots of tables not much css). The problem is that the interface is in a language not spoken by 5% of those that have to use it.. getting the dev team to fix it is _impossible_ they have already stated that they won't be allocating time for the task. What I was hoping to do is fix it with greasemonkey, just the small parts of the site that need to be translated to all basic usage.
How much of a task is this going to be? Anyone know a good example script I could base mine on?
