To: publicla...@googlegroups.com

Wondering if anyone is in the Bay Area that can help me balloon map some vineyards in Mendocino.  If you already have a kit that would be better as I am still trying to build mine.  Free vineyard camping, food and wine is about all I can offer for the 1st couple of tries, then hopefully it can become a service to others.  Let me know as I will be up there this weekend, but live in SF.

No problem. Ryan - with a moniker like "WineMaps" I have to ask - do you map vineyards already, without balloons?

Yes the site is under beta with Google Maps and the mobile app is
under prototype, but need help in taking it to the next level.

So far it is just a one man show on this startup project, so I am
looking to build a team as well.

Hi Ryan,
This sounds like a great time. I cant make it this weekend but you could borrow any equipment that I have. I have mapped vineyards grassroots mapping style. I have two quick tips;
- Set the exposure for the very high reflectance/albedo coming off the surface of the vineyard, its early enough in the growing season and there will be lots of lightly colored soils in the shots.
- Fly overhead of the trellises as best you can. They can be 6-7 feet tall and you need a good vertical angle or you will not get good overhead lines of the trellises. Suggest walking right through the trellises whenever possible rather than outlining the perimeter of the vineyard.
Best,
Stewart
