Most likely you have already heard the details for Mountain Justice summer camp this year... but
if not the details are in the description below. Please spread this
camp announcement below far and wide! If you are sending out
announcements to a group or organization, please let me know of your
outreach efforts. It is much appreciated! Also, if you are interested
in helping to plan camp, we still have weekly calls on Thursday evenings at 630 and would
love to have the help so let me know and I'll get you the details. You can also follow the link below for info on working groups.
Thank you!

Hello,
We are excited to announce that this year's Mountain Justice Summer Action Training Camp will be held on May18th–26th at the
Appalachian South FolkLife Center near Pipestem, WV. Come out to learn about mountaintop removal coal mining (MTR) and to get ready for a
summer of action!
Mountain Justice Summer Action Training Camp
is a week-long program of education, workshops, entertainment,
sustainable living techniques and direct action training to prepare
activists of all ages and walks of
life to join the movement to end MTR and to help promote environmental
justice for Appalachia and beyond. This year marks the eighth Mountain Justice summer training camp! Visit
www.mountainjustice.org for more information, updates, and registration for 2012 summer camp.
We are excited to be returning to the
Appalachian South FolkLife Center
for camp this year, as we have hosted camp here in previous years.
There are great options to choose from for accommodations at the
FolkLife Center, including primitive outdoor camping or one of the
rustic dorm-style cabins complete with bunks and showers. Visit the
Appalachian South FolkLife Center website (
www.folklifecenter.org) for more details on this beautiful site!
The
schedule for camp will include some of
the same
amazing workshops that we have offered in the past including MTR 101,
Appalachian cultural awareness, water testing and science, Surface Mine
Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA), and non-violent direct action
training. This year, we have expanded the scope of camp to also include
a 'training for trainers' track for experienced activists that want to
take their organizing work to the next level. There will also be
opportunities to become involved in actions during and following camp
(participation in direct action is not required to attend camp).
The final schedule and the registration form will be on-line soon. To be notified when these come out,
sign up for our News and Announcement List.
Registration fees will be $20 minimum plus $15/day, or $150 for the
duration of camp. This includes all workshop activities, three meals a
day and a place to sleep. No one will be turned away for the lack of
funds--scholarships are available.
Thank you!
