Hi folks in the NY/NJ area,
G-LAM (Gowanus Low-Altitude Mapping) is on for this weekend.
Please RSVP as weather will determine Saturday vs Sunday (but more likely Sunday) and i will be sending coordination emails or texts.

We're going to break into groups -- each with an aerial camera rig -- and spread out to capture as much of the canal as possible. Links to previous maps can be found in the Public Laboratory archive here and here

Please come equipped with tough gloves, water, shade hats, sunscreen, sturdy shoes (advised closed toe), and other useful stuff.

On the day of (likely Sunday), meet at 9am at the edge of the canal, 2nd Ave and 5th Street: http://goo.gl/733Fo%20
We will form teams, pick up equipment, and spread-out to several predetermined access points.

Other activities may include experimenting with UV / IR filters to reveal sewage or related water issues, or lowering a high-contract disc into the water to give an indication of turbidity.

see you outside!

Hi all,
For those of you in the NY/NJ area, please save the weekend of July 30-31 for the next Gowanus outing.

Brief info: We are planning to form 4 teams to spread out around the canal and cover a greater area while continuing to document the "Salt Lot" focus area where green infrastructure is being installed by the Gowanus Canal Conservancy.

Links to previous maps can be found in the Public Laboratory archive here and here

I will be posting more info here but please send me an email to get on the direct list for this event.
See you outside!
Liz
