Subject: "Graffiti Is Dead"-DVD
Just arrived,from:
http://www.prismproductions.net
ca.90 minutes
Graffiti DVDs and videos have developed into an own artform, with
surrealist, dreamlike sequences very well mirroring graffiti/writing as
a shortlived but intensive activity.
in 18 small chapters you`re being introduced into various aspects of
graffiti/writing,see how they come into being, where you may admire the
ease and fluency of their creation, which is a document for hundreds of
hours of previous training and sketching.
As a shortlived artform ("unwanted art" or worse "forbidden art" as the
propaganda-specialists tell us) the fanzines and DVDs may be among the
rare documentations
of this real global 21.century art.
To see-in daylight-a writer in action decorating busses of the NYPD or
in another scene a worker just watching the writer`s activity is a
document of the silent acceptance of parts of the populace.
In parts the music gives it a hasty speed very well reflecting the
necessity to be fast to evade arrest and/or unwanted detection.Whereas
the daily news try to give readers an impression that graffiti/writing
as something shortly to be fully erased and deleted this DVD,among
others, show walls and other surfaces telling a fundamentally different
story.
Obviously a deep hiatus exists who looks at these graphic products.
Good to watch such material, you also may stop and pause to study some
details.
