Do you have ideas for features you'd like to see in GQueues Pro which
will be geared towards businesses? Let me know about them on this new
page:

Cameron - AWESOME job on apps integration! LOVE It.

This may not be only for the pro version but in general: Get rid of
the My Queues and Friends Queues separation.

Why? Because as a manager I will want to set up a queue for my team
and that queue should be at the top of their list. If I set it up
though it will appear at the bottom left of their screen in the
"Friends Lists" box.

If all lists are in one box, independent of whether they were created
by me or friends, I can sort them by priority by simply dragging them
into the right order.

I think the work / home differentiation is sufficient.

How about a dedicated iphone app instead of a web log in

For those with lots of queues, design a way to display the queue names
in columns so that dragging/changing queues is easier.

Agreed. The separation of those needs to go.

The ability to specify a follow-up activity.

When an item is marked as complete a "next step" dialogue box would
pop up which would prompt you to specify a next step in this task.

And the ability to keep track of necessary steps to be completed.

I order paper so that I can produce a document in a certain format but
when the paper arrives I don't remember what document I was going to
use it for. I add a task for receiving the paper and when it is marked
complete I get prompted, print doc. X on the special paper.

I really like that idea: too often, if the task is simply marked
completed, activity stops - particularly with delegated tasks in a
collaborative setting. A popup box that asks, "next step" as
suggested would keep things flowing. If the activity was terminal, a
"none" choice would allow you to move onto something else with minimal
inconvenience. Without this feature, for example, if I mark my
grocery list complete, I'll have to start a new one when I go to the
store again and can't easily see what I got last time. Not that I
really want to track my grocery store purchases, but a linking feature
(whenever the "next step" box is checked) would also be helpful.

I just posted about task assignment in the RoadMap page (whoops), so
I'd just like to add that this is the #1 thing needed for useful
deployment across my organisation and we'd pay for it.

Custom fields - the ability to add custom fields would be awesome.

One example may be for a company that assigns tasks to employees but
wants to include a ticket number for them to address. They would setup
a custom field called "Ticket Number" which would appear along side
the notes field. The users would have the ability to sort and search
by those custom fields.

Would be far better than dumping everything in the notes field.

Just found your site. Fantastic idea. I am a lawyer and I have yet
to abandon Exchange for Google Apps because of tasks....specifically
the lack of ability to assign tasks to my staff. There are several
things that business users will need that Gqueues may be able to
improve on:

1. Assignments are critical. The word share is one thing...the word
assign is another. A business version has to be able to track task
assignments. I need to keep track of who I assigned it to, when they
need to have it completed by, and when it is completed. In Outlook
there are start dates and completion dates. I also need to know they
accepted the task when it was assigned. Some people like tasks on
their calendars...some dont. The option to do either is nice.

2. I need to see a backup or export feature. I don't trust your site
right now. Too small and too new. I need to know that my data can be
exported to an Excel or CSV spreadsheet so that my data can be
routinely backed up to my computer. A full backup on exit to a
specified folder on my drive would be great.

3, You refer to "items"...a prefer the word tasks and projects.
Tasks are things that generally do not require the completion of
numerous subtasks. A project requires the completion of numerous
subtasks. It would be nice to be able to have a button for task
creation and then another one for project creation (that allows for
subtasks that can be organized numerically and by date/time frame). I
guess each queues can be a project by itself but there may be times
when I want to have a project inside the queues...I created three work
queues...Clients, Marketing, Administrative...I don't envision more
than that. I try to keep my business actions segregated and
simplified.

4. Business tasks and projects involve documents. So we need to be
able to attach documents (any kind of document but especially PDF,
Word, Excel, etc.). I like to have the documents attached to the
task...this is something that Outlook does very well. Outlook also
lets a user drag and drop an email to the task icon to attach/append
the email to the new task. This saves time because I have the
information I need right in front of me when I am looking at it.

5. Multiple queues open at the same time. It would be nice to have
two or three queues open with say the top three or first three items/
tasks open and then the ability to scroll down each queues. A button
to expand one queues could automatically minimize the others.

These are the suggestions that stick out in my mind. I am sure there
are many more. I believe Outlook does certain things really well...I
am shocked that Google has done practically nothing to compete with
Outlook tasks (the current task offering is way too simple for
business)....your product is much better than what Google has offered
and if you can create a program that does what Outlook does in a more
Google-centric way...then I think your product will be in extremely
high demand. Best of luck. Thanks for an already great product.

I do feel the Assignment & Tracking of tasks is an extremely important
feature
However, I am of the view that this should be core to the app and
hence be apart of the general public app.

As is the ability for Bberry - just as the iPones is

Specifically w.r.t # 3 in your suggestions -
If there is a significant Project that has both tasks & Sub tasks,
cant the Project be a Queue in itself ?
So a Q for Proj A another for B so each have their distinct tasks &
sub tasks with tags that could be common in both to link up and see
what needs to be seen under Admin or Operations or Finance ?

Just wanted to say that I would definitely appreciate a pro version.
I'm already attempting to use GQueues for my small business.
Assignments are a definite need. Thanks so much!

Timekeeping?

(I don't want it personally: I couldn't care less. But it seems
popular for many businesspeople.)

Ok, First, great job. You guys are on the right track here. Here are
my suggestions: I'd like to see better integration with Google App,
including contacts. When I start typing a name that is in my
contacts, it should pop up. I should get a link on my menu in my
other Apps pages (under the 'more' button) that takes me to GQueues.
The gadget should allow me to see only my tasks when embedded in a
site, not the tasks of the person who embedded the gadget. The gadget
should allow me to create and manage tasks, not just check them off.

Just a few ideas (I'm new to this group, so forgive any naivety:
- Adding Roles, Groups and Domains as well as Hierarchies
- mapping Hard workflow (defined business processes)
- attachment of google or non-google docs (potentially with source or
version control)
- time or event triggers (recurring tasks are similar)

I worked at a workflow company years ago, and was shocked that they
missed the simple, valuable stuff like this - not long ago I was
literally ready to put something together out of sheer frustration of
not having it. Kudos to you for getting it done with GoogleDocs.
Anything I can do to help, let me know.
