A new year brings new repairs to ourold building.
Beginning January 9th MTS Contracting Incorporated out of
Springfield, MO will begin work on the attic of the old building.
They will stabilize the rafters to make the roof system stronger and
stop the movement, which is causing damage to our walls. I am
sure that you know the cracks are not part of our interior decorating.
Once done in the attic they will repair the interior walls and ceiling
and then move outside to repair the old entry porch ceiling and do
some tuck-pointing. The work is being paid for with a Heritage
Trust Fund Grant through the Kansas State Historical Society that I
applied for on behalf of the city. The grant was for $100,000 and the
City will pay up to $20,000, this is an 80% - 20% match. We
currently do not know how much of the work will affect our patrons,
but please know we will try to keep it at a minimum. Our old
building is an important part of the library in space, function and
its
history. We thank you for your patience and support.
