Today's Millrace Singletrack Trail Maintenance
I spent a couple hours working on the Millrace singletrack, starting at the entry right by the Rieth Interpretive Center. I managed to clear out the initial section down to the swamp area, even moved a few rocks out of the path & cut off a big limb that had fallen awkwardly across the path at chest level (ouch!). I left the next upper section that loops back (by the Red Bridge), since it's not majorly overgrown -- it will need work sooner or later. Then I started again at the top of the hill going back towards the 2nd lower area -- the path that parallels the actual Millrace (and path) heading towards the Waverly bridge. I had cleared the initial section about 2 weeks ago, and it needed re-clearing already. I also cleared out 3 other sections 2 weeks ago (S-P woods, South Classified Forest, North Classified Forest), and they're still doing OK -- all of those 2 week old areas really need a good golf-style weed wacker taken to them!... more »

Millrace Path Ride and Trail Maintenance?
The weather is looking good today (Saturday, May 12), so I'm going to spend some time this afternoon out on the Millrace single track -- both biking and doing some trail maintenance. I'll be shooting for mid-afternoon, maybe leaving the Dam Pond parking lot around 2:30 PM, and being out for ~1.5 hours. My son (almost 10) is interested, so this will not be a fast-paced ride, and nor will there be lots of trail maintenance -- but it should be fun and every little bit of maintenance counts! There aren't very many bugs out yet, and the plants are nice and soft, so this is the perfect time to do maintenance.... more »

FW: [Goshen Bikes] Join us for the Mayor's Ride on Monday, May 14
All, Several people have pointed out that Bike Michiana is promoting the next week as Bike-to-Work Week. I was going by the national dates from the League of American Bicyclists: [link] Why the Bike Michiana people want to create their own week is beyond me. It’s obviously confusing when the national news broadcasts talk about this week, as they have, and South Bend makes their own week.... more »

No first aide kit
On April 4, I was riding my Giant mountain bike north on U.S. 33 between Plymouth Ave. and Monroe St. when I notice that about 150 feet ahead of me, a cyclist had fallen beside the road. When I reached her, she was kneeling on the ground and holding up two hands with numerous cuts on both of them... more »
