Honolulu's GTFS data includes the use of the optional stop_url. This
unique url links to TheBus's real time schedule information.
From Google maps, users can click on any of the bus stop icon on the
Island of Oahu which brings up the routes that serve the stop and the
scheduled time for the next few trips. The stop_url (
hea.thebus.org)
is also displayed. Clicking on the
hea.thebus.org link will bring up
the actual predicted arrival times from Honolulu's GPS system. The
real time predictions are updated about every minute.
The hea system is also accessible from smart phones at
hea.thebus.org.
From this link, users can search for the bus stop by entering a bus
stop ID number (also available on Google maps and posted at the stop)
or search by street name.
Hea is a Hawaiian word meaning "Where" as in "Where is the bus. The
HEA acronym also stands for Honolulu Estimated Arrival system.
Tutorials and a user forum are also available at
hea.thebus.org.
