Hi,
I am seeing different results when I search for the word "Perl" on
www.google.com than when I use web API to pull the results. Though
they match somewhat (50-60%), it gets worse when the query has more
than one word and/or non-typical searches. For example, when you look
for "running a background process from dos prompt".

I went through few threads in this group that discussed same or similar
topic, but they were few months old. Any information is helpful.
Thanks,

Tamashee - have you tried setting the filtering option for the API
query to TRUE? Using this my script results was generally the same as
www.google.com - it was only off with single digits, say 2-3%. It
seems the way www.google.com filters results and the API service does
it, differ slightly ( try counting the non-idented results
www.google.com gives instead of all the results. You results should be
closer). You might also try setting the language to the same specific
language on both the website and API call.

I also used another website, www.googlerankings.com to "benchmark" my
own API. When I set the filtering option to FALSE their findings and my
own we're more or less the same.

Hope this helps

Regards
Iwano

Iwano, thanks for the info. Though setting the filter (to TRUE) helped
for some keywords but not for others. I also tried with setting of
"restricts" parameter to "countryUS", but to no avail. The results are
again quite different for "running a background process from dos
prompt" whether you set the restricts or not (including language).

Furthermore, why would anyone enter their Google key on
www.googlerankings.com to find the rankings? This is equivalent to
asking for a password :)!
Cheers,
