Subject: Double slashes and duplicate pages
Just found quite a number of our website pages are maintained under
Google with both single and double slashes in their path names.

www.mysite/products.htm
www.mysite//products.htm

Each has a unique cache date under Google.  I checked our code and
found no typos creating this.  I suspect an external link may be the
culprit.  This page has dropped SIGNIFICANTLY in GOOGLE search results!

It appears Google placed our single slash page in Supplemental Results
and the double in our main search results.  Using Site command only
returns double slashes and singe slash pages can only be viewed by
clicking on "Omitted Results" at end of search.

Is Google punishing our site under this new "Duplicate Content"
monster?  Any comments on how to correct this.  If an external link
created this situation, how can we possibly find it and doesn't this
open the door for a malicious attacks on any website?

To find out what happened follow every link on every page you have. If
that doesn't help, maybe you could post a URL so someone could take a
look to see what's wrong with your site or is it because of Google.

Our site has 1000 pages.  I did a global search on our source and did
not find any double slashes.  Most internal links are referenced
relatively without a full URL path.  Here is an example of a page on
our website that Google maintains 2 separate entries in its index.  The
webpage in reference is only linked from one page in our website (our
sitemap).  Cache for all double slashed pages Google maintains was only
generated during a 4 day period in August 2005 (6th - 9th).  All single
slashed pages have been cached in Sept - Oct 2005.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
