Subject: Website Dropped
My site has been up since 1997. It is linked to by dozens and dozens of
websites around the world. Recently my website was dropped from the
Google database. Here is the URL:

http://www.effingham.net/bishop

All other major search engines, Yahoo, MSN, etc. have the website in
their database.

Enter "Bishop's Drum Shop" into Google and you will find it on many
websites linking to mine but not a direct link to mine. Enter it into
any other popular search engine and you will find a direct link.

I've read the Google support information supplied on their website but
after reading am still unclear as to how this happened, or how to
correct it. I've emailed Google support but have only received
automated responses.

I'm a longtime fan of Google.

Thanks,

Bishop

A LOT of people has this problem. My web sites where on 5-10 top
keyword results during few years. Now it's a 30-50 results.

I think it' new Google formula. The strange thing is some websites
where dropped huge and some (also without any changes made) are still
on the same results.

Just has many people have the opposite. Only 10 sites can be on page
one. Fo every one that drops another go up.

(1) Disclaimer

Google employees post to this discussion group with the email address
ending to google.com (you can see the email address of a poster in
Google Groups web interface by clicking "show options" in an article).
Google employees haven't discussed in this forum for a while (at least
not by using google.com addresses). In this forum anyone can ask and
anyone can reply to Google-related issues. I do not work for Google.
Opinions are mine, but quoted text from articles/web pages or pages
linked to from this article probably do not contain opinions I agree
with, but they might contain relevant, useful or at least interesting
information.

(2) Routine check information for future reference

Your main page is mentioned on page

   "Personal Pages"
   http://www.effingham.net/personalpages.htm

Only two of those eight personal pages are indexed by Google. Here are
the URLs for Google's cached versions of those pages from one of the
Google data centers (216.239.59.104) so it's easy and fast for you to
check the situation yourself by clicking the links below:

http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:http://www.effingham.net/travele...
http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...

These six web pages haven't been indexed by Google:

http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...
http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...
http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...
http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...
http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...
http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...

I can find incoming links pointing to your site from web pages indexed
by Google, so your main page should be indexed by Google, examples:

http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...
http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGL...
http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:http://drumpro.com/links_equipme...

On the other hand Google doesn't promise to index all the pages from a
web site:

"Although we index billions of webpages, we cannot guarantee that we'll
crawl all the pages on a particular site."
http://www.google.com/webmasters/2.html

(3) Suggestions for solution

To get indexed by Google you need incoming links from web pages already
indexed by Google, and you do have them:

"The best way to ensure that Google finds your site is to have pages on
other relevant sites to link to yours. Google's robots jump from page
to page on the web via hyperlinks, so the more sites that link to your
pages, the more likely it is that we'll find them quickly."
http://www.google.com/webmasters/1.html

Because Google doesn't index all the web pages from a web site, one
solution would be to buy your own domain.

On the other hand, Google Jagger Update has happened and the search
results may change during the next weeks, so you could just wait and
see, and maybe contact Google by giving a URL to this discussion
thread.

Because of Google Jagger Update, Google employee Matt Cutts suggests
this:

"Reporting non-spam issues or problems in Google's index"
"Do the search that you're interested in on google.com, then click
the "Dissatisfied? Help us improve" link at the bottom right of the
page. Again, fill in details and use the keyword jagger1 so that folks
at Google can separate out feedback specifically about this update."

Good evening,

After finding this user group it makes me feel alittle better
that I am not alone or crazy with a dropped site in the Google
listings. I had been use to seeing my site http://
www.techwestracing.com float in the top ten for keywords MSD Ignition
and MSD Ignitions. Then starting early last week it started a slide
then just completely dropped from the listings completely. Up until
tonight I had been trying to figure out what had changed on my website
to get me banished from Google. Now I just hope there is a solution to
this deal. It has just killed my traffic since 85% had been through
Google. I work in a very small niche market and this just made my site
worthless to have up even though the other search engines still have me
listed in the top 10. If anyone hears of some solutions to try I would
be greatful to hear them. Thank you for your time and effort.

Best Regards,

Pat Collins

Here's my story (my site is http://www.football-data.co.uk)...

For the last 6 months or so I have been regularly ranked in the top 10
returns for "free bets" at google.com. Suddenly on Monday this week I
found myself at rank 213. Other keyword searches have also been
affected but not as much. As a result my traffic has dropped by 10 to
15%.

Here's the strange bit.

This is page 3 of google.com "free bets" search

http://www.google.com/search?q=free+bets&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&rls=GGLD,...

The Stan James link there (Stan James - The Sports Bookmaker) is my
affiliate link. When you click the "similar pages" link for that entry
you get a whole load of other affiliate links, most of which are mine,
plus 1 or 2 of my domain pages too.

On google.co.uk the same thing has happened although fortunately my
main domain does also appear there on page 2.

How can the google algorithm be working properly if a unique affiliate
link which presumably only exists on my site is ranking at 23 when the
actual domain which hosts the link is at 213?

Can I expect things to get rectified with the next re-index or has a
new google algorithm basically confined my site to the dust for "free
bets" searches?

For the record, I know this is not the first time this has happened to
other sites, but it is the first time it's happened to me so
drastically.

Any info much appreciated.

Hello Bishop,

I am on the same boat. My site www.AssortedArticles.com which had about
17K pages indexed was completely dropped. Not one or two pages but all.
To my dismay, since I had been working on it adding content, and I was
hopping to get a lot more pages indexed.

I also have been a longtime fan of google, and have worked with since
they were that funny sounding named search engine.

Well at least I feel better that I am not alone for whatever that is
worth.

Regards,

Xela220
