What is google.public.labs.voice-search?

Google.public.labs.voice-search is an unmoderated forum whose purpose
is to provide discussion about the Google Labs Voice Search demo. This
group is currently only available through Google Groups. Any
individual with a question or comment about using the Google Labs
Voice Search demo may post here.

The Google Labs Voice Search demo is an experimental system that
allows you to carry out a Google search by voice with a simple phone
call. This demo is available on labs.google.com, Google's technology
playground. For more information, please see http://labs.google.com.

Occasionally Google employees may post to the group. Any Google
employee who participates in the group will always post with BOTH the
name "Google Employee" and email labs-...@google.com.

Google.public.labs.voice-search encourages free and open discussion on
all aspects of the Google Labs Voice Search demo. However, posts not
on this topic are not welcome. We reserve the right to delete posts
that we consider inappropriate.

In addition, this group explicitly prohibits

* The posting of commercial advertisements or other promotional material
* Spamming/excessive multi-posting
* Usenet chain letters
* Binary (non-text) postings
* Forgery of another user's identity

If you would like to report abuse on google.public.labs.voice-search,
send an email to groups...@google.com.

In order to create a constructive forum, all who post to
google.public.labs.voice-search are encouraged to follow the general
posting tips found below.

General posting tips:

* Posts should carry a clear, descriptive subject line.

plan on addressing.

Next step... GoogleBrain....just think of a search query...and it
appears. (requires JavaBrain 3.1, an IQ of 28 or higher, a Google USB
BrainAdapter (Radio Shack!) and two electrodes) hehe.

Hi, I tried to access internationally - from Ireland. But was unable
to dial-in. Sounds like a busy dial tone or something similar. I used
the international dialling code, 001 but with no success.

Voice recognition software on the computer passed using the Google
APIs.. was this someone's stanford senior project?

I'd have to guess they didn't get that far yet.. notice how there's
only one (non-too-free) number? And it tends to be busy? :)

Right now it's probably just one input (that phone line) tied to the
output (the one web page)

but yeah, I can see where all that other stuff would come in!

Thank you for your message. It is possible to access the voice search
demo from other countries. However, many people are trying it out,
so the demo is frequently busy. In that case, you get a busy signal,
which is probably what happened to you. Please try again later.

Actually, having had more time to think and play with it, it looks
like the search results are simply being displayed in the order that
calls were placed.

The funny thing is that anyone with a Dialogic board can mimic this in
about 25 minutes. I'm just wondering where this could be taken to
(project wise), there is no privacy, and no way to really match calls
to answers on the web, now if the results were returned as
text-to-speech, well then.

I've tried calling the number a few times (calling from the UK, using
00 1 650 318 0165). In the past I tended to get a busy tone
(understandable as this demo appears to be very popular), but lately
I've got a ringing tone, then the line is picked up but I'm met with
complete silence. I don't hear the prompts mentioned on the
instruction page, and if I speak nothing happens.

Any idea what might be causing that?
