Sorry to all that it took so long, but I actually spent as much time trying to create a working installer program as I did on the application itself. I certainly learned a lot about the WiX Toolset, but the learning curve was so steep that I sprained my ankles a few times.
Please note that although this application contains all the required functionality (and a good deal more than the original deskbar, in my opinion), this is a bare-bones Beta release. The documentation is sparse and incomplete. There are only two extensions (Google and Dictionary) included. Still, I hope that everyone will see that this gives deskbar search a future, and in time, with your help and feedback, I can build it into something that brings a lot of value to everyone's desktops.
I monitor this group all the time, so please post any questions and feedback here.
I occured to me that it has been long enough since I originally posted my vaporware announcement of this thing that I should probably restate that my deskbar replacement requires .NET 1.1 to beinstalled on your system. Obvious, it is a Windows-only application. I have personally tested it on 2000 and XP.
Wow, glad to see this came to fruition! However, I couldn't get it to work.. It installed fine (an msi - very nice!), but when I right click on the task bar and check ReDB as a toolbar, the mouse turns to an hourglass for a second then nothing happens. I have the .NET framework 1.1, and tried this on both my normal XP machine and a fresh one under VMWare.
