The last post on this topic, from July, stated that Google
Visualization GeoMap doesn't support state-level maps yet. I'm
wondering if the Google Visualization team plans to add this feature
in the future, so that maps like the ones under Google Analytics state
view are possible.

Thanks,

-Dmitry

Hi Dmitry,

I ran into same issue. I am planning to write a visualization to
support state-level maps.

I like understand the requirements from the community.

1) What would be the input and what should be corresponding map?

2) What options and events the gadget should support?

3) What is your preference for the gadget- Flashbased or SVG/VML
based?

Thank you!

Hi Meera,

I'm mostly seeking to mirror the functionality of the Google Analytics
map visualizations. This means that it would be nice to see a state
level map (for example, just California), with a Markers data mode to
draw data points at every city within that state that. I'm personally
just looking for state regions, though there are probably people who
would like region-level maps of other countries (for example
provinces) as well. But I do think that individual states within the
US should take priority in the project.

As far as events, I feel that the tooltip that displays the data point
is sufficient, because there isn't much further that we can drill down
to past the state level, unless the cities themselves (in a markers
data mode) should be able to create events to drill down to the
individual city. Also, I see no real problem with a flashbased gadget,
since the current GeoMap is already a flashbased widget. More
important, I think is that the GeoMap remains GWT-integrated, since
I'm using it within a GWT platform.

Thank you for your helpful response Meera!

Sincerely,

-Dmitry
