There is Three Open Source animation editors that I found, Ktoon,
Pencil, and Synfig. All are vector editors, but for some reason they
only have their own 'closed' file format, and not one supports or
exports to SVG. That is pretty amazing and disheartening. Now that SVG
is finally coming around to its own, we need to get at least one of
these programs to run on native svg format. Google if not this year
how about 2010 Summer of Code? We need to get this up and running.

You are welcome to apply for future Summer of Codes. We can't promise anyone that we'd accept them in advance, of course.

Cheers,

Synfig is working its way towards supporting SVG.
Pencil has only 1 developer, may be you can help.

ktoon: no comments, never used.

Yes I use that already use Inkscape, but it will be a while before
they animate, the others already animation but do not export to svg.
Just opening the options for programmers to focus their skills on the
opportunities.
