Every year people used to ask same question again and again. For eg,
how to choose an organization and project etc. etc. I hope this guide
will help you a lot.

As we know before writing a proposal for GSoC and submitting it for
review, there are 2 important thinks to do.
Choosing an org and choosing a project.

About choosing an org: Go to the previous year org. list for choosing
an org. Chances are there that most of the old org will be applying
for this year too. While choosing checkout the language you are fluent
in, your skills and professional interests.I

I recommend students to short list potential org. from the list
instead of choosing a single org. to make sure you are at the right
path even from beginning. If you think one particular org. is
suitable, that's more than OK.

You should talk with the community of your org and if you are happy
with it and if you think you got every necessary information to get
started, you can choose it as your gsoc org.

If you are unable to get the answers to all your queries through the
mailing list, IRC and other documents reevaluate working with it
before continuing. Then you can go through other org. from your
potential org. list. Note that GSoC is for many months and you should
love working with your org.

Hope this helped. What do you think.....let me know

It is very helpful. I'd be very grateful to you if you could suggest me some mentor organizations. I am fluent in c++ and this is the first year of my computer science degree so i m not a very advanced programmer. I am familiar with core java and my advance java classes are going on.

I understand that it's really hard to suggest mentor organizations to everyone individually. I'd really be grateful to you for this favour.

Thank You

And all serious students who want an advantage should read the GSoC Student
Guide. Lots of helpful tips there, including a section on "Choosing an
Organization"

Hi Ajay, I am a blogger and love to provide information what real GSoC
aspirants seek. That is why I've done written the ebook. I know people
want to know what real successful GSoC students do and how they
succeed. If you want to hear some real time experience of GSoC
students you can read this interview series I've done with some old
GSoC students. Here is the interview

hi ankit goel,
You should look at the previous year accepted organization list where
you can find organization listed on the left and tags on right. Here
is the link
http://google-melange.appspot.com/gsoc/accepted_orgs/google/gsoc2011
On the tags, you can find languages like C, Java, Python etc. This
means coding for a particular org. you need to know these languages
(or atleast one among them.)
You know C++ and java, try to list some organization and do as I've
mentioned earlier on this thread.

Hope it helped, let me know if you need anything else
