Prepare for next GSoC

I didnt catch up this year. I heard about GSoC at the deadline of application.
I want to prepare for next year. Can you give me some advise?
And how can I participate the Open Source Project, such as MINIX, boost C++, ……

Finally, since you asked about MINIX specifically, start reading their documentation now. Check out the source code and play around with it. Fix a few bugs. Join their mailing lists and lurk - see what you learn and who else on the list is like minded and would be a fun person to talk to further.
