Last time visited - differences between GSB and Google spider?

Hello,

quite a few web sites I know are not covered in GSB - i.e. the diagnostics page would say that they were never visited.
However, there are recently cached versions of the available via Google Search.

Is GSB using a different spider?

It would be fascinating to learn a bit more on the background.
