Which Cookies do you recommend? I am loath to delete all of them as I
then have to go through the process of accepting them all again for
the multitude of other things I do online. If you know what they are
called I can try that in Google Chrome.
Interestingly I tried adding my wife using Chrome and Firefox, the
result has been the same in both.

This has now got worse. As of yesterday, I had trouble adding my wife
so to my shared contacts. However, I COULD still see items she shared
with me. Now I can't even do that. So despite the fact there are 20 or
so other people who I am apparently sharing with the most important
can't see my items and I can't see hers. Very very frustrating.
Please let me know what cookies I can delete. I just don't understand
why it would work for weeks and weeks and then suddenly get corrupted
like this, when neither my wife or I changed anything at all in our
settings!!!
Please help, I've spent more time trying to make this work than I have
reading any content, if this feature doesn't work properly don't offer
it.
Ok, deleted ALL cookies out of the browser (Chrome). Added my wife
again to my shared contacts. Logged out. Logged in again. My wife has
gone out of the list again. In other words, deleting the cookies has
had zero effect on this problem. However, now I have to input all the
passwords and settings on the countless other sites.
Is it possible that my gmail account and my wifes have in some way
been corrupted? Is there anyway to get this looked at?
I'm a very long time user of gmail and reader - I really don't
understand why all of sudden there are these problems. Any clues would
be welcome, or do I just need to give up on Google?
I've had similar problems. I switched from sharing my shared items
with all chat contacts to sharing them just with select "friends." I
accidentally left 2 people out of my new friends list when I made the
initial change, and now when I try to add them it always bumps them
out of my friends list whenever I close google reader. What a pain.
I still looking for solutions too.

My friend appears to be having this problem when trying to share with
me as well. Has there been a resolution? Seems like there is some
kind of bug running around.

Agreed - strikes me that this is a feature which is clearly broken.
There was one reply initially from someone at Google (up near the top)
- since then nothing.
It's hugely disappointing but not altogether unexpected.
I've been looking at other ways of reading and sharing articles and
feeds and have started reconsidering whether I use the google calendar
and docs. Of course, the potential loss of one customer is not
material in the greater scheme of things but it's hugely annoying that
there's been no news. It wouldn't be so bad if the first message from
someone 'official' didn't actually get sent. But it's like they
started a conversation and now can't follow up. Poor.
Every few days I go back to reader and try to add my wife to my
sharing contacts again, log out and then log back in to see she has
gone again. If it changes I'll post here.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I just wanted to drop a line
to let you know that we are indeed listening and are currently
investigating the problem. I'll post again shortly with an update as
we learn more. Thanks again for your patience and for helping make
Reader better.

I wanted to give you an update: We think we've found the cause of this
bug and are pushing an update to Reader tomorrow to address it (and
several other problems). Please check Reader again tomorrow evening
and let us know if you're still having problems. I'll post updates as
they become available.

I believe it is now working again - at least my wife and I have added
each other back into our sharing contacts and it seems to have stuck.
Provisionally I would like to say Yes, it is fixed - thanks for your
help.
Let me try it for a week or so and get back to our normal sharing
habits and ensure it's still ok, then I will up date the "provisional"
status :-)

p.s. I know I could ask this somewhere else, but ... the little menu
of google apps at the top right of the screen in gmail used to have
'reader' as one of them. For some reason it vanished a couple of
months ago - is there any way to specify which google apps show up? Tx
I'm having a similar problem, but with another layer: I can't figure
out how to add a friend in the first place. The help section says that
"On your Sharing settings page, you can enter the email addresses of
people you'd like to share with." -- where can you add those?
Also, the particular friend I'm trying to add isn't showing up in the
"People I'm Sharing With" list, even though many people with whom I
don't actually share ARE appearing in that list.
I am *still* having this problem and it is quite frustrating. My
husband can see my shared items fine, but I cannot see him on the
People Sharing With Me list for the life of me.
Also, it's a little odd but on HIS "People Sharing With Me" tab, my
name shows up with one of my non-gmail accounts associated to it; I
don't know why.
Please help. As rightantler mentioned, it's very frustrating that I
can't share with the one person with whom I most want to share with.
Help please!

indeed, the friends sharing is all over the place and takes away a key
feature of this product which i otherwise love to bits. the whole
thing is confusing.
i had "share with chat contacts". now, in gmail my chat contacts list
is 20 long, yet only 1 appears in greader. this week i noticed my
friend went AWOL. i tried changing to "share with friends" instead
(whatever that means - this is a very unclear aspect of greader - a
share target is a share target, get rid of the differentiation pls)
and 2 of this friend now appeared with 2 email addresses of his! where
did they come from? they however listed him as having no profile (yet
he does).
is feeds are now coming thru again now that i changed from "share with
chat" to "share with friends". the fact he is listed as no profile is
a bug. also, when i removed one of this older emails the UI reported i
was "sharing with chat" again which is false. i also note that "people
sharing with me" is 0 although i can now see my friend's shared feeds.
wrong.
the share with friends features seem littered with bugs, would be
great if they could be ironed out of an otherwise excellent app.

more woes. in the space of an hour, with doing *nothing* at all, just
leaving chrome there with reader open, my friend has disappeared out
of "friends i am sharing with" but still remains in "friends sharing
with me". this sharing stuff is utterly confusing as hell.
and also it seems the adding a friend by link does not work. i have
sent my friend's emails via the text box and they are not getting any
emails and i've asked them to do the same to add me and i don't get
the emails.
