Suggestions for Screensaver

As someone else mentioned below, I LOVE where this screensaver is heading, but... I'd like to have a NO REPEAT tick mark so photos don't repeat. Even better a settable, 'Don't repeat for 'n' hours/days' similar to the smart playlist option in iTunes. I've dragged nearly 1200 photos spanning more than 10 years of digital images into the "Screensaver Folder," but I regularly see the same subset of images. They typically don't come up in the same order, but they are frequently repeated and there are some I've never seen pop up as a screensaver photo. We have a beautiful 24in monitor in the kitchen and the images are wonderful, I'd just like to see more variety.  Thanks.  (PS: I'm a noob to the group, so was unsure as to whether to post at the top or bottom. sorry if I got it wrong)

I am writing about me just try to know about me what  is my personal administration and some thing more, <a href="/home/girnarsoft-6/Desktop/anoop/personal photos" title="Anoop Kmawat">Anoop Kmawat</a> is my peat name.

turankeser@superonline.comI think you should fix this, but at least notify users - when starts, the screensaver changes my Vista theme to Vista Basic, then after I close the screensaver - it's back to my theme. VERY ANNOYING!!! and as a result of such "behavior" - it hangs for a seconds while the theme changes to Basic and back.

This screensaver is the answer to a long-awaited deficiency in windows-bundled software. It's awesome! Can we please get previous and next scrolling with the right and left keyboard arrows without the exit and play buttons popping up. That would make it perfect.

I love the screensaver! Some suggestions:

- As already mentioned, auto rotate based on EXIF would be great

- I\\47m not sure how the choice of zoom-center is made right now, but EXIF could be handy in determining the zoom-center (where the user set the focus, for example.) Image processing can also be used to determine the focused area (most contrast) and use that as a zoom-center.

- Really cool!

...Google rocks...but PLEASE give us possibility of alphabetical order for the screensaver pictures to use it as a good ! kenburns slideshow for holiday pictures...or give picasa the kenburns feature for the slideshow !...it´s so annoying that there is NO instant kenburns viewer for windows available...THANKS A LOT  ... allow a search for what photos to show in a folder (then you could type in a name or 2 for a wedding, etc. do it kind of like a playlist with if/then, contains, equals, etc.

have the option to stretch or not stretch pictures, I can't stand poor quality photos being blown up.

The random program is terrible.  It only plays my folders that have letters in the title I sort most of my folders by date (#'s)

Include video files, and maybe audio to play in background?

Love this screensaver! Completely agree with previous posters - ability to remove text (filename and nickname) please, as well as selection of random photos from selected feeds or directories.  Also, I'd love to be able to view files from specific public picasaweb folders - why do I have to log in  The reason for this is I'd like my kids PC to access my public photos (of them!) but I don't want to have to put my login details into their screensaver setting - I should be able to just tell them to point their screensaver to picasaweb.google.com/publicfoldername (or indeed have multiple public folders viewable in the screensaver).  Great product!

- Add ability to go to sleep mode after a set time, to conserve bandwidth usage Maybe coincide with monitor going to sleep

Linux Support: Ability to scan specific folders/ sub-folders, web albums/ rss feeds (picasa/otherwise) - All these in Linux would be wonderful!

-  I second this, I use VMWare at the moment just to be able to use the google screen saver via WinXP!

The Google Screensaver is excellent, works well with 2 monitors and the collage is really cool.   What writing it for Windows Media Center  The collage would really be a nice effect on a bigger screen and would make a good show in the living room with music in the background - Google Screensaver Media Center Edition!!

Suggestion for Screensaver: -- With the Local Folder selection, include the option to add a wildcard for specific files.

-Add an option to keep each picture on the screen for a lot longer

- Auto rotate pictures based on Exif camera orientation information.

- would be a great feature addition, since Picasa already supports it!

- Add a spot to disable the text on the screen (File name and Nickname when using Picasa Web). This is quite disturbing when we try to show this after school hours on all the TVs in the building.

- I second the above request.  An option to not display the image name and the photographers name. (Or to turn off one, and not the other)  There are some very talented photographers out there with absolutely no talent for naming their photographs.  Seeing DCS0037.jpg overlayed on top of a gorgeous image of a sunset is not particularly appealing.  Make it go away!

- Random function!  Add options to display photos in random order, otherwise the screen saver is always exactly the same and therefore quite boring...

- Add the screensaver to Google Pack also for all other languages!!!

- Have an option to alternate feeds, such as having the option to have one feed playing through the entire screensaver, until another time when the screensaver is started when it will display another feed.  It sounds confusing, but it's a feature I have been looking for for a while now.

- Give the option to display the images sequentially, randomly, and predefined sequence by image name.  When displaying sequentially, even predefined, give the option to start from the beginning each time, OR from the last image displayed.  Currently, the only option is to display randomly.

When you select a folder for pictures, make it select all the subfolders beneath it.  Right now it only selects the folders that do not contain subfolders.  Very annoying.

- When a photo is edited or removed from the feed, make it so that the screensaver updates accordingly.

- When displaying local pictures, display file name (upper-left, lower-left) and be able to turn this off.

-- Do you have plans to read video rss too in the future so that news broadcasts can be played automatically I know microsoft has a video screensaver, but it can\\47t read feeds.

- Add the option to display each photo for a longer period of time than 9.3 seconds. This must be so easy to change. Google screensaver would be an awesome tool for using a living room HDTV as a large virtual picture frame, displaying beautiful pieces of art and photos. While displaying a picture for a short period of time is fine for photos, it would be nice to have the option to leave a photo on the screen for 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 20 minutes, 1 hour. In this way, you could have a Monet in your living room for a time and admire it as a real piece of art before it changed to the next piece of artwork. Art changing every 9.3 seconds is too busy and distracting and does not leave enough time to admire the piece.

Make Google Photos Screensaver compatible with Firefox 3. Oh, and Google Photos Screensaver should be compatible with Google Chrome, too.

- make the photo selection more random, at the moment, it sometimes seems to stick to only a few folders (my pictures are organized into folders by event/date, large folders with many pictures seem to overtake the rest, increase randomness in terms of sub-folders possibly?

I LOVE where this screensaver is heading, but...

I'd like to have a NO REPEAT tick mark so photos don't repeat. Even better a settable, 'Don't repeat for 'n' hours/days'.

Randomnous seems to be lacking in that every time it starts it seems to repeat the same pattern.

Key Element is Missing!!

Random between Folders!..

Very Boring Otherwise! the Crappy Vista Built-in Screensaver has it!..

Also, Random Transitions! Both Features Easy to Code!!

Here's one I'm shocked that no one has mentioned... how about the ability to import and export our list of feeds? I have several computers that I run Google SS on and it would be nice to be able to keep a common list and transfer it from computer to computer. Plus several people have seen feeds on my SS at work and asked for the feed info... it would be nice if I could just give them a file.

The old screen saver, before installing Picasa 3.0.0, made controls available when moving the mouse. The new one requires space or return to be used first. However, after the controls are made available, they stick on the screen even after the slide show has been resumed. (Edit: Seems the controls go away after quite a long time.) The old behaviour was superior for using the screen saver as a photo frame application (for example for your almost computer illiterate relative). Please make the old behaviour a switchable option!

auto-rotate based on EXIF would be great!!!!!

"The old screen saver, before installing Picasa 3.0.0, made controls available when moving the mouse."  I agree -- the new (lack of) controls is driving me crazy!  Once you touch the mouse, the top and bottom controls appear and stay -- to get rid of them you have to exit the screen saver.  Quite annoying.  Also, the controls no longer work; I can't pause the play or rewind the images. Can this be fixed, or can we go back to the previous version?  I wouldn't have updated Picasa 3.0 if I'd known this would happen.

Randomness and folder depth have been addressed above. Also much longer display time. Minutes!

Where are the captions? You show captions when pulling RSS images, but not local disk images, even though the tick mark is checked. ???

Font size should be settable for captions.  What's with ... chopping off the end of my caption? Make it fit, or at least wrap it. It's HUGE.

More arrow and other settable key controls would be welcome. Left arrow next, right previous, E for edit, DEL delete, etc.

Collage should drop same size pictures. Why does it get smaller and faster?

You ought to merge with gPhotoShow!!

Another suggestion:

Please consider allowing us to show the path and name of the local file being shown on the screensaver.  I know others find names distracting, but I (and hopefully others) like them.

Am I missing something? It looks like screensaver doesn't use changes made in Picasa (3.x), particularly rotation... (plus full support for previous suggestions).

I have discovered a workaround for the display time issue! Create a text file, rename it to a reg file (googletime.reg), edit it, type/paste between the lines:

-----

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Picasa\GBScreensaver_d\Preferences]

"advanceinterval"="30.000000"

------
BUT depends on version and other settings.
v2 def to 23.9 secs
reg still list 9.550000, so it is roughly 2.5secs per unit in registry
(i.e. 12.000000 yields 30 seconds, etc.)
v3 def to 9.6 secs and is roughly 1:1 in reg.
so 20.000 yields 20secs and 30.0000 yields 30 secs
using slider in ss settings will revert back to default limits!!
You can experiment, edit till you get desired time. Doubleclick .reg file and merge to apply.
BUT the program STILL sucks at adding folders with subfolders.
What bugs me is that Google wants to give the IMPRESSION they are making an effort, and have a forum where we can all 'make suggestions' to feel better, but they ARE NOT READING THEM and are doing NOTHING about the problems. I would think if they wanted to or actually cared, they could solve these goofy bugs within a week and release a much better product with additional OPTIONS! (people could select whether they want the 'controls' or not during screensaver.) Sorry for the wordy entry. Just steamed at the 'blowoff' from the Big Brothers.

Pam & Zoom is always displaying jpg-files too big.  Pam & Zoom should go in&out to/from current display size (i.e., when zooming out, display from monitor's display size to larger image; when zooming in, display from large image down to the monitor's display size).

Ability to press DELETE and ''Move'' keys would be great (i.e., Move file to a prompted folder)

Need to be able to enable/disable recursive descent in the selected folder(s).  Current folder selection scheme is primitive.

60 seconds or so for swapping photos would be nice.

It would be nice to be able to hit a key combination to save out pictures you really love, that way you have them locally and can gather all of your favorites into a single folder!
