Is the new Voice Search currently available? The info on the Google
site implies that is available now but the version available in the
App Store was released on August 28, 2008. I cannot wait to try this
new iPhone goodie!!!
I concur! Can't download the apps as said on http://www.google.com/mobile/apple/app.html and the youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3z7Tw1K17A The latest that the App Store allows you to download as of now is:
August 28, 2008. There only looks like 3 Google Apps to download from
and there's only one app named "Google Mobile App" so I must be
downloading the right one. Is there some disconnect with their release
and announcement?

I think Google was a little pre-mature in announcing this piece of
software. Like all software released on the App Store, they have to
go through Apple's testing/licensing process for each new release of
an application. It's possible that because Google and Apple are
partners, Google has priority and has more information on when an
application is released to the store. But the end all say on when the
Application is released is up to Apple.
My guess is we'll see this late today or early tomorrow.

To those with confusion as to why its not working... its because its
not out yet. The news was released prior to apple putting it up on the
App store. So basically you have about as good a chance of getting the
existing google app to recognize your speech and search for you as you
do picking up a banana and having it do the same.

Are you saying that the speach portion of Google Mobile for the iphone
is not part of the app yet?

Interestingly after a bunch of complaints they quickly reverted their
site to the old one prior to the announcement and pulled the video.
Until now it wasn't back up and now that it is back up I gathered that
Apple finally published the upgrade on the App Store. Well ... guess
what! Same prior version - no voice search. Guess Apple applies it
strict policy to all developers large or small ... apparently having
Google's CEO on Apple's board isn't sufficient to get their app
published in time!

Wow. There is now a post on the official Google blog with no
recognition that it isn't in the store yet. They use the same wording
saying to search for it on the app store. Yet, still nothing there.
