In order to keep the map working at reasonable speed Google Maps needs to limit the available features visible at once, quite simply the more features shown the slower the map gets.
For MyMaps the features are split into pages, so that a reasonable amount of data is shown on one page - effectively enough that will work at a reasonable speed. This normally results in between 60-200 features at once, but sometimes that is not enough.
However Google Maps uses a different limited method when displaying KML files; a regional geographical culling based method. A certain number of features are shown, to give a reasonable overview, but then as you zoom in more features become visible. This often results in more results being visible, but importantly doesn't impose the arbitrary pages, so its often more friendly on the user, as can just zoom in on an area rather than flick though pages to find their area of interest.
=====================================
the HowTo
And as MyMaps have an KML export, its quite easy to do. Unfortunately the inbuilt KML export doesn't work with multiple pages, so :
* as you have multiple pages (as you reading this!) then I have a little script to create a KML file that gets round the limitation: ....1. Goto http://www.nearby.org.uk/allMyMaps-to-kml.php ....2. Follow the instructions ....3. On the results page, right click the 'Download Google Earth KML File' and copy the link to the clipboard
Now you have the URL of a KML file in the clipboard, simply return to Google Maps, and paste in the URL in to the Search Box, and click Search.
You should now see your MyMap content with the regional culling method I mentioned :)
(Note: If you don't like the display of the nearby.org.uk domain in the display, can simply download the KML file produced by the script and host it on your own server, or googlepages.com for example)
=====================================
Going Further…
If want to 'share' it with others, just use the 'Link to this Page' to get a shareable link
Note you can even save this 'display method' back to the MyMaps tab, with the link on the left. Note you can even continue to edit the source MyMap and after a few hours delay the changes will even show up on the 'copy' - as the KML file is simply a 'geofeed' of the original map (NetworkLink in KML parlance)
However if your map gains enough features that it splits onto an additional page, when you will have to follow the above again, as the KML has the number of pages hardcoded inside - I see no easy way round this.

On Windows Safari, the menu option is called 'Copy Link', no idea what it would be on a Mac (or if you even right click thinking about it now - but there must be some way of getting a context menu)

Good Afternoon,
Is there a way to print the multipaged map after you have used the
help link?
As i have now amalgamated all 3 of my pages into the one map and can
view all markers (via zooming) whihc total over 600+. However i now
have an issue with printing, as it has now resorted to only printing
the shawdows and not the actual markers which isn'tobviously what i
need.
Hope you can help as i urgently need to print the map.
Regards
Andy

I love using the KML trick to get around using multiple pages.
However, when I try and share this new map using the URL google
generates, all that appears is a blank map, and people cannot view the
map.
Is there any way for me to share this map with other users?
Yes the page that is created should be shareable, just use the 'Link to this map' when viewing it. You can also just share the link that is generated by the tool. Something like http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://www.nearby......

Barry, I am searching fruitlessly for the "link to the last page (eg
3)," which has options to "select 'copy shortcut' or 'copy link
location'". Is it possible my stoopid Explorer browser is hiding
something (I'm so paranoid about it). This is as far as I can tell a
one-page map --- and I've started clicking away all over the place
just looking for things that give "select 'copy shortcut' or 'copy
link location'" options......I know I'm not an idiot. Where could I
look for the proper link location next? Sorry about this....L

It worked well for a while, but then suddenly it stopped displaying
the areas. Since it stopped there has been an extra page added in the
pagination, I have tried to use your service again, but it simply
says: "there doesnt appear to be more than one page, please try again"

The link you gave has &num=200&start=152 - normally num should be the
number per page, and start the first of the current page. However
clearly start should be a multiple of num, seems Google Maps has
started returning 200 for everyone (or at least most)
To get round this my script how actually downloads the first page of
the KML file, and actully counts the number of features in the KML
file (and thats all it does with the file it discards the data). But
in your case it gets 165 features?
This doesn't match you file, becuase if go back to page 1 you see
&num=200&start=76, which suggests there is 76 features per page - and
that matches actually counting the features on the page (no I didnt
count them manually!)
HOWEVER that does seem to suggest that Google no longer pages the KML
output (Yay if true!) - making this script redundent.

Yes, I've tried it with few more big My Maps, and the paging does seem
to be gone! Whoop!
That does mean that the script is not needed, and I have updated the
introduction with big message :)
So a message to anybody scrolling down the page (to try to catch your
attention)

Just use the link ‘View in Google Earth’, and paste it directly in the
search box to get access to the geographical culling method. No more
going and creating a kml file or any silliness.

This is great Barry. I searched for hours for a solution to this
problem. It seems odd that My maps has pagination in the first
place. Is there anyway that I can embed the resulting map on an html
page? When I click on the link provided it says it can't be
embedded?? If not, I have seen other users that have google maps with
well over 200 elements on one page. Is there another way to build
maps besides using My Maps??

The map created like this should be embeddable - certainly has worked
in the past.
If GMaps seems confused a tip I have found useful - especially lately
with all the recent shake ups- is to go fresh to
http://maps.google.com/ and paste in the url into the search there. It
often seems to work better (I guess less previous settings to confuse
it...)

I can clearly see the "View in Google Earth" link on the sample map a
couple messages above (http://maps.google.com/maps? f=q&hl=da&geocode=&q=http:%2F%2Fmaps.google.com%2Fmaps%2Fms%3Fhl%3Dda

and in other maps that I view around Google. Any idea why isn't it
showing up on my map?
