Subject: Top 10 things you didn't know about Google Maps
Hi everyone,

Let's do something fun! What are cool things you can do or find using
Google Maps that people don't expect? Some of friends and I have
thought of a few below, but I'm sure you guys have lots of other
great, surprising ideas.

The more specific your example, the better. Let's kick it off!

    * Find all the Seinfeld film locations in New York, including the
original Soup Nazi
    * Find the best dog parks in Berkeley.
    * Use Streetview to check out street parking before you head out
    * See the hours and price for the new nightclub you want to check
out
    * Create your own map of favorite italian restaurants or indie
coffee shops and share with friends and family
    * Check live traffic and predicted traffic for tomorrow night
    * See photos and watch videos of a bakery your friend recommended
    * You can fix incorrect information (position, name, address,
website, phone number) on any local listing to improve the experience
for everyone. Even better, you can add places that google maps don't
know about... e.g. the new cafe that opened up just around the corner.
    * You can use the measurement tools on the satellite map to build/
share online "yardage book" and develop your strategy upon that for
your favorite golf courses.
    * You can adopt and track a migrating sea-turtle:

Okay! Now it's our turn! :)

Happy mapping!

I was just trying the distance measurement tool and could not get it
to work in Chromee but it does work in Mozzilla.  I think this feature
is great!

Hi Jade,

It's wonderful that it's technically possible to do some of these
things with Google Maps that you mention, but you don't say HOW they
can be accomplished, and that's the hard part.  Maybe you can help
advise me however how I might accomplish this task:

I would like to be able to have Google Maps show me all the places on
any map I'm viewing that are X number of miles from any road or
community, places I call 'wild areas' because ten or twenty or fifty
miles from any civilization tends to be that way.  It is not
necessarily the same thing however as 'wilderness areas' for which
there are existing maps because those essentially show political
boundaries of declared wildnerness zones and that is not what I care
about, though of course in many cases there is a great deal of
overlap.

Google Maps knows where all the roads and communities are, so it
should be able to show me an overlay of all the places where they are
NOT, right?  Yes I know I can go zoom in on any map I want and see for
myself but that is very crude and labor intensive and not necessarily
accurate or practical.  I might like for example to see a map of the
whole United States and Canada showing all the regions that are 100 or
more miles from any road or community, and then zoom in on a
particular state to see all the regions that are 50 or more miles from
any road or community, and them be able to look at any given county
within a state and see all the areas that are 10 or more miles away
from civilization.  Does this make sense?  I do not already have such
a set of maps that I simply want to emulate by manual drawing on top
of Google Maps, I want Google Maps to be able to find and display
those locations for me.  Is it possible to do this with Google's
existing functionality?  If not, is this something possible to
accomplish with Google Maps' API?

Thanks
