Hi dear Map Makers,
You might have noticed a new 'Your World, Your Map' announcement on
the Google Lat Long blog ( http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2009/10/your-world-your-map.html
). The announcement also has information about a new feature that has
been rolled out on Google maps which allows reporting of errors.
Through this feature, you can report any change or issue you notice
with the roads, points of interests and driving directions on Google
Maps. For now this is only available for the US, for fixing
information elsewhere, please continue using Google Map Maker which is
available in 170+ countries ( http://maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=155415
)

For more info about the process to report a problem on Google Maps for
the US, please see the help page:
http://maps.google.com/support/maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=162873

Regards,
Map Maker Guide.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but many of the POIs associated with
the Local Business Center are misplaced.

If one is clicking around in a neighborhood that one knows, trying to
correct improper placements, it takes a couple of clicks on a POI
before it's shown as a locked POI previously claimed by a business
owner. Similarly, it takes a couple of clicks on unlocked, previously
moved POIs before the moved position is shown. This makes for at
least one discouraged mapper. I could recreate the workflow in each
case to show what I mean if it's not apparent.

Additionally, it seems that a lot of businesses (especially chains/
franchises) get claimed by their inattentive owners, but remain
misplaced or with bad spelling, address, phone, etc., and these cannot
be fixed (but should be).

Hey Rich and AM909,

you're right - a lot of businesses claimed by their owners do not have accurate details and I know its frustrating not being able to correct them. We need to find the right balance between business owners and community corrections - step I will be to allow everyone to report errors on businesses claimed by owners so we can act on the data - we'll update the forums once this is enabled

Excellent news, Lior! Looking forward to open error correction, it
will help the business owners as much as it helps Maps users!

I too agree that this could be improved. I am attempting to update a
fair amount of businesses along busy roads. It wastes a fair amount of
time when the "edit" link is available but clicking on it displays the
notorious "business claimed..." message. I have an idea for that -
what is the edit link is removed (or disabled) for places that have
been claimed. This serves a double purpose as I see it - a lot less
wasted time on our part and the ability to see that we *can* edit it
when you have figured out a solution.

I love how I was notified over a month later that the issue had been
resolved that I reported, but nothing actually changed.
