Global Mapping Competition: December 15 - January 31

Dear Mappers,

I am very excited to announce that we launched our first-ever Global
Mapping Competition! The competition will run December 15 - January
31. Add the most universities, schools, hospitals and medical clinics
with high quality into Google Map Maker, and your efforts will win
$50,000 for UNICEF's work empowering young people through technology
in your homeland. Moderation quantity and quality are also criteria
for judging competition entries so don't forget to moderate as much as
you map!

is only edits made in this duration will count or over all edits and quality will count toward the result?

I will not be mapping during holidays so is a big off 4 me. 

but i bought a gps logger so i can log my home town and village as it does not have high quality imagery.

Yes, that's correct Faraz. We made this global mapping competition 50%
longer (6 weeks vs. 4 weeks) than the Latin America mapping
competition to try and compensate for the holiday break.

Great that you have your GPS in hand and will try out mapping your
home town -- that's terrific :-)

I know that the legal people at Google drew up the terms and
conditions, but is it really that people from Iran, Sudan, and so on
cannot *participate* or just that they cannot be awarded prizes (but
could be given recognition)?

When I click on the link it takes me to a set of edits which require moderation, all of which are of substandard quality. I feel it is better to revert all those edits as the user has not learnt the basics of editing in mapmaker. I tried moderating some and it is not worth doing each and every edit.

 

the edits have been made by a person without a profile.

 

Please do something to prevent further damage.

In the current events, i'm now sure what's the point of this contest
since i think this is one of the reason of major failure of GMM : no
rendering since weeks, dissapearing edits and today major rendering
failure. Even if the contest continue, the results will not be
accurate since of this problems with GMM.

I was excited finding that "Google Map Maker is now live in Brazil,
Georgia, North Korea and Saint Pierre and Miquelon".
I tried to register account for google map maker in order to
participate in Global Mapping Competition but while registering:

a) google does not verify Gergian mobile numbers by SMS. So, how I
can access to the google map maker??

b) Georgia is not listed under this particular question: Which
country do you want the $50,000 UNICEF donation to benefit, if you win
the competition?
while neighboring Armenia and Azerbaijan are included. why?
