I posted this in the announcement for Eastern Europe but I was, again,
ignored.

According to the LatLong Blog, Malaysia and Brunei are also open for
editing now. I tried and they are. What happened to the old data which
is still live on Google Maps? Did the license expire?

Doesn't look like Google is doing away with the map data with MapIT
(even though there are errors on it). The difference is Map Maker is
community-based. But hey, I'm not from Google. :)

Dear wdmanuel,

Rest assured that we saw your question & we've been pondering the most
suitable answer. It turns out the answer is not terribly
straightforward. For example, even if a license had expired, I
wouldn't be able to share that information with you for reasons of
contractual confidentiality.

So here's an answer that is legally sanitized & sanctioned: "We have a
variety of sources of data for Maps, including user-contributed data,
licensed data, or a combination of the two. We continually evaluate
our sources of map data in order to provide a great exience for end
users, and may switch data in a country from time to time."

I hope that helps!

Cheers,

Jen.

P.S. YM T has also made a pertinent point :-)

A little ironic that there was a type-o in the sanctioned
response..."exience" should be "experience" ;-}

Cheers,

Jen.
