The reason for the difference in the accounts is due to the fact that
new accounts are enable to Import (from Yahoo!, AOL etc.,) in a way
that Gmail hasn't enabled before.
It's supposed to have been rolled out to old accounts as well, but as
you've discovered, it's taking rather longer than anticipated!!

I want to import or fetch (if those are different) ALL my mails from
an old fastmail account into my new gmail account.

As far as I can tell, mail fetcher only imports emails in the inbox of
the old account, whereas I want all emails, including those in other
folders.

Is that right? And is there a way of getting all emails?

Yes, it's the same information as before!
Sadly the e-mail addresses are still obfuscated, so I'm not really any
the wiser in trying to see where it's been going to.
However, at least one IP address is 127.0.0.1 which of course is
itself!!
Maybe that's why it's not showing.

I have tried to set up automatic forwards from Hotmail to Gmail but
normally this is refused as Hotmail will only forward to other Hotmail
or Live accounts and at the same time removes the original copy.

If so, it would have been more helpful if you had added this

Does this sender get a 'Bounce' message or a Non-delivery notice?

If he does, then ask the sender to save the headers as a .txt file,
using the Save As... option in the Internet Explorer or Safari File
menu
or the Save Page As... option in the Firefox File menu.
It's important that the information is saved using the File menu,

I am automatically forwarding all my mail from my yahoo mail account.
Why do messages with this header not show up in my gmail inbox?

Messages from a particular sender are not showing up in my gmail
account when forwarded from either hotmail or yahoo mail. Mail from
other senders does show up. Is there some trick to this? The messages
which get lost are not treated as SPAM by hotmail or yahoo mail.

With IMAP, all the clients should show the same account information.
You might start by telling us what is not working.

The ONLY way to make the .pst files identical is to copy the same file
to all three devices. yes, I know tat's next to impossible - but you
did ask! Otherwise you won't have all three logging the messages at
the same time.

The fact that you've paid for additional storage has little
to do with your failure to see e-mail - unless you've exceeded
the quota (and the additional storage that you've purchased).
Did you sign up for the Premier Service
(which has Tech Support) or did you just purchase
'additional storage' for your messages?

I agree that this feature can cause problems. For example, some lists
insert
a unique id into each received message before posting it; the Google
mail
feature make this id unavailable to the original sender.

I'd also like to see an option to disable it.
