Now that Chrome/Chromium has come so far, I hope that the great
developers who were pulled from the Picasa for Linux project to work
on Chrome - I fully understand the priorities - can be reassigned to
Picasa for Linux. The ostensible reason for winding down Picasa for
Linux - that it was used by so few - simply doesn't cut the
mustard !...

If the reason they've stopped the Linux support is because they are
making a native chrome OS version then thats okay. But if that is the
case then why haven't they confirmed that?

My next question would be if they are creating the chrome-OS native
version of picasa then i presume it will be mostly javascript based
(as is the whole chrome OS) in which case will it be able to run on
other Linux distributions?

I very much doubt there will ever be a GTK version of picasa anymore
considering google chose not to use GTK in chrome OS.

I just installed Picasa 3.6 under a standard Wine 1.1.35 build in its
own config location. Installation of 3.5 did not work, but 3.6 works
fine, including the face detection portion. Not sure exactly what
things are broken when not using Google's custom wine package
(probably print, some file management, and maybe external editors),
but the basic library and edits all seem to work just fine. >48000
pics reindexed in around 1 1/2 hours.

Are you able to run "backup pictures" ? That would surprise me (see
post from yesterday).
