Hello,

I use picasa (picasa_2.2.2820-5_i386.deb) under Linunx.
My Virus scanner has detect the Virus w32/ Magistr.a@MM in
//opt/picasa/winw/drive_C/Program_Files/wine_gecko/components/
appshell.dll
I have delete this appshell.dll Can I use picasa without this file or
is a new installation requirede?

Can you run:

md5sum /opt/picasa/....../components/appshell.dll and tell us what the
checksum is?

The checksum should be 6fee71a26249ad5c594ed4ea37a6c3a7.

What virus scanner are you using, BTW?

I use the Aegis Virus scanner and have just delete appshell.dll

Thanks for your comment!

This is a false positive. See
http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Labs-Picasa-for-Linux/browse_frm/thread/5794b9c730e7b836/f585d4a7049f9cda
which says
--- snip ---
We ran Symantec's virus scanner, and it didn't find anything.

aegis mentions on its home page (http://jodrell.net/projects/aegis)
that false positives should be reported to the maintainers of
File::Scan,
which aegis is based on.
File::Scan's bug tracking system lists the following bug:
http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=12970
which says "False positive: W32/Magistr.a@MM".

So it looks like it's a bug in File::Scan / aegis, not a real
infection.

Thanks for your comment!
I reinstall picasa and ignore the aegis virus detection.
