Not getting much help on this issue.
Here's further proof that I AM connected to the Internet... Picasa for
Linux though fails to see this fact.

No, IINM it's not Picasa - it's your log-in to G-mail that is failing.
Check your username and password for G-mail.

Hi Barry
I'm very sure that my UID and Password are correct as I've had someone
else try to login for me... and my login DOES work fine on my XP
machine.

Further, the error says that P3 thinks that internet connection is NOT
working properly.

Further bug correction support requested.

Dgd, unfortunately our excellent Google guides were assigned to other
duties - Chrome ? - so we users are on our own here ! Let me ask, if
you first log in to your Gmail account on one tab, and then access
Picasa 3 and try to send a photo via your Gmail account, does that
work ? If not, have you considered uninstalling and then re-installing
the version of Picasa that you are using on your Fedora box to see if
doing so resolves the problem ?...

Henri

PS : By the way, nice animated screengrab ; what application did you
use to make it ? Is it available only in Fedora ? I'm running (64-bit)
Ubuntu Karmic and would love to have access to something similar....

I think Picasa is simply responding to the failure of the log-in. The
error that I saw in the video was "Authentication Error" and to get that
it must have contacted G-mail and been refused access.
I like the video screen grab - would also like to know more about it!

Barry,
Thank you for your continued support.
Picasa 3 appears to be trying to log me in but fails on login though I
know I'm entering my UID and PWD correctly.

I use byzanz-record. Fast and simple though watch your record
times...

OGV and OGG (recorded with recordmydesktop or istanbul) have stopped
playing reliably with VLC and Totem so now I am using Byzanz a lot
more.

Here's a sample command I use for making animated gifs.
# byzanz-record -d 600 -c -w 1024 -h 768

You may note that P3 was/is also having trouble posting to blogger
too.

best,
Dennis

Thanks for the info - I will have a look at that.

Why not use Kmail or Evolution to mail from Picasa? These are both
supported properly. Just make one of them your default mail client and
Picasa will correctly attach your pics to an email and all you need to
then do is add recipients.
I use Thunderbird like this, but had to write a small script as it's not
supported out of the box.
I know that does not really solve the problem, but it does work.

Dennis,

I had the same issue! I got on here to find a solution, but to no
avail.
Thank God for fedoraforum.org!
Here is the thread: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=223743&highlight=picasa
The solution is fairly easy if you have wine installed.

$ sudo cp /usr/lib/wine/wininet.dll.so /opt/google/picasa/3.0/wine/lib/
wine/

If you don't have wine installed, take a look at the thread. Someone
there has uploaded the .dll file.
No idea why it works, but it did for me.

HTH,
Candace

Candace you're a godsend!

So what's the deal -- is it just a bad library packaged with Picasa 3?

P.S.

If google actually wants to look into this, here are the log results

Alison,

No idea.  But if it is, you'd think they'd have repackaged by now. (This has been an issue for some time now.  At least since June.)
I did a clean install with DangerMouse's autoten installer and had no problems. (on both 32 and 64)
He has it install openssl-devel first, so that may be the actual solution instead of the dirty fix.
Oh, and don't thank me.  Those people on fedoraforum.org deserve all the credit.

If you wish to install using the autoten script, you can get it here: http://dnmouse.org/autoten.html
