Subject: Where is Sinhala Transliteration IME?
http://www.google.com/transliterate/sinhalese has a link "New!
Download Google Transliteration IME"
... but no Sinhala Transliteration IME can be found at http://www.google.com/ime/

When will a Sinhala Transliteration IME become available?

Re U+0D87, U+0D88, U+0DD0, U+0DD1: Given the frequency, especially of
the latter two codes, there should be some unique transliteration,
e.g. "ae" or "aae".

Best regards,
peter

Yes We all sri lankan's are waiting for this. But no it is still not
there. Pls google labs india release this. It's something that is
already available in the web interface. So it must be something that
take time to do.
Thanks in advance,

Subject: Re: Where is Sinhala Transliteration IME?

Dear Pasan Indeewara,

thanks for your support.

I believe the reason why there is no Google Sinhala IME is their lack of a
suitable lexicon. Even for me, being a mere beginner who wants to learn to write
(and read) Sinhala using the help of an IME, it is obvious that their web
interface has many deficiencies. What can be done to improve the situation? Is
there anybody who can provide a resonably voluminous Sinhala lexicon or
dictionary? Such as www.maduraonline.com but including a parser for flexion
endings, etc.

BTW, I am trying to compile a Sinhala electronic dictionary of my own from
various public domain printed sources (including Clough's and Gunasekara's
Sin-Eng dicts) and am looking for help by native speakers for proof-reading,
etc.

Feel free to write me if you have any suggestions.

Best regards,
Peter

Hi,

Your keyboards are a totally different concept than Google IMEs. Many people
nowadays want to type their native languages using Latin characters on a
standard English/US keyboard, as has become a generally accepted standard over
the years for Far Eastern languages despite their huge character repository.

Peter

actually many many eastern languages do not have a very huge repository

languages of india have about 50 character (approx)
english (latin character set) has 52 (taking 26 alphabets x 2  for upper
case & lower case)

typing eastern languages in english is suitable for those who are already
'experts' in
using the pc in english.

for native sinhalese/indians, it is much easier to type directly in their
own script because the same character can be spelt in many ways using the
lating character set
