A Docs API would open up so many possibilities. I really want to
develop something (right now) that stores user "document-like"
information with one of Google's services. There's a few different
ones I might be able to force fit, but the logical choice is saving
and editing as Documents.

This would be a great thing, I am currently building an open source
project management system and I would love to be able to add document
management into it via the use of a user account on Google doc's to
store the documents and have access to provide the editor in a section
of the page, I love using Google docs and I would love to be able to
integrate this into my system.

Just to let you know that i'd like this feature too :D
I'm new to Gdata API, but it seems that only part of the Calendar
functionalities have been implemented so far. I also think that there
is no need to add any implementation with email stuff (since pop/smtp
is obviously a more usefull existing API to mails). The only missing
part lays in the ability to list contacts from the calendar API (since
those are synched with email contacts), every important feature is
already in the API. BTW and in the meantime there should be some room
for a ugly hack that permits to create an event including all the
contacts for later retrieval from Gdata calendar API...

Yes please create a Contacts API so we can sync our smart phones to
one centralized contacts list (Gmail contacts aka Google Contacts).

+1 on making a contact API. The services that do want to access google contacts are already doing so (with users consent). This should just level the field.
