POWER TIPS
* Why search the whole web when you need info from only a single (and
possibly huge) website? Use Site Search to narrow searches, like this
Stanford-only query: [admissions site:
www.stanford.edu]. You can also
narrow searches to a top-level domain (.org, .edu, .mil, .com, and
.net, and for country domains like .it (Italy) or .sz (Swaziland).

* You may have already heard about searching for TV shows with Google
Video. But did you know that you can also search the program content of
those shows? This is because Google Video makes use of closed-caption
transcripts. For example, try a search for [shaq] or [new gadgets], or
even a well-known phrase like [seinfeld no soup for you].

Google Q&A
In a world of complex situations and conditions, isn't it a relief to
get a factual answer now and then? Google Q&A sheds light on facts: the
[population of Portugal] or [who is Jane Fonda] or perhaps [how many
moons does Jupiter have]. We're constantly adding more information
that's well suited to a question/answer format. And you can use Google
SMS to get the answers you need on your mobile device, too.

Google Video Upload Program
Advances in video technology have made it incredibly easy to make a
film. Now - how about an audience? Google Video has an Upload Program,
and we're accepting digital video files of any length and size. (Of
course, you must own the rights to your videos.) We're still in the
throes of launching this new service, but soon users will be able to
search, preview, purchase, and play videos. Including yours?

MISCELLANY
New York Times' op-ed columnist Thomas Friedman has a theory: The world
is flat. That's the title of his new book, and he says this
"flattening" of the globe is due to cheap, always-on telecommunications
and the growing surge of Internet access across devices and continents.
Rather than view the world through the old lenses of haves and
have-nots, Friedman asks us to consider how much we're already
intertwined across borders in service industries, e-commerce, and
information. In the category of food for thought, "The World Is Flat"
is a full meal.
