Performance Data Missing for Indices

The Market Value and Day's Gain position data has recently stopped
being returned for indices such as .DJI, .IXIC, .INX, .N225,
and .FTSE. This is also reflected in the online portfolio where, under
"Performance", the "Mkt value" and "Day's gain" columns are empty.
This data appears to still be available for regular symbols, just not
for indices. This changed just a few days ago. Is this an intentional
change? If so, what is the reasoning and how do I now go about getting
that data.

Yep, that is intentional and fixes a user reported bug: Since one can
not "buy" an index in a portfolio, we no longer calculate/report those
fields to the end user.

Dion,

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I was using that data and
it is critical to my application. If Google is no longer going to
provide the Market Value and Day's Gain position data (at least in the
API) for indices, then I will have to find another source for the data
(likely Yahoo! Finance). Is there any other way to fix the bug that
will allow the data to still be in the API? Is there a place where I
can subscribe to notifications about future changes to the API?

Thanks,
Bradley

Dion,

By entering in "1.00" as the number of shares for the index, I could then use the Market Value and Day's Gain to display that index's Market Value and Day's Gain. This indirect approach was currently the only way to get this data from the API as there's no way to directly query for a symbol's Market Value or Day's Gain.

Thanks,
Bradley

It sounds like you're using that as a work around to get the index
value + change fore the day. We do not have rights to distribute the
data in that format. I'm afraid you're best off selecting a source
that is specifically allowed to provide pricing data. I haven't used
it myself, but the Xignite folks look like they have a good offering
for that.

Sorry!

Dion,

Thanks for your help. I had already started to take a look at Xignite. Out of curiosity, is it documented anywhere that Google Finance does not have the right to distribute data in that format? I had looked for any sorts of restrictions when we first integrated Google Finance, but didn't find anything. Documentation of this might save other developers time :-)

Thanks,
Bradley

Hi Bradley. You're right it isn't mentioned in the documentation (was
hoping to avoid giving people hints on how to actually go about doing
it =) ). It has been brought up a few times here in the discussion
group though. I do apologize, it is rather frustrating to have to
change out the API from under your application. If we could provide
it, we definitely would.

Dion,

I understand. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks,
Bradley
