Hello!
Take a look at the latest Freeciv Web Client: http://freeciv-forever.com/
It uses excanvas, but there is still a lot development work remaing to
get
it working smoothly.

Do you have any demos/prototypes so we can try it out without playing
a full multiplayer game?

There is single player support, if you don't want to play a full
multiplayer game.
The original Freeciv also supports scenarios, but this isn't ported
to the web client yet.
